SS18 Lingerie Forecast. What’s hot this season?

This quote from Franca Sozzani, the former editor in chief of Italian Vogue comes after lingerie brands unveiled their new 2018 spring/summer collections. Fashion is becoming a celebration of life and lingerie. The lingerie we wear is a very private feminine affair, to express fantasies and to cherish the female body.
SS18 trends bring ‘Geometric Sea’,’ Athletic Wonders’, ‘Girly Gal’ and ‘Blissful Berry Garden’.
Geometric Sea brings a palette of gorgeous neutrals infused by pastel blues, greens and corals. Inspiration is drawn from the beautiful oceans, with fabrics being light and flowing with movement. Scallop lace brings a feminine edge whilst nude mesh creates a bare skin allusion which isn’t for the faint hearted. Incorporated into this softer side is a strong geometric feel, with sharp angles, lines and shapes. Elastic waistbands and cut outs provide a flattering look for many body types and add a masculine element to women’s lingerie.
Blissful Berry Garden is all about mixing soft silks and satin with deep, bold colours. Merlot red and midnight blue are among the favourites for SS18. Inspiration is drawn from summer days where fruit and flowers are in full bloom. Eyelash lace draped over dark floral prints creates texture and plays a key part in layering sheer materials with delicate silk. Lightweight pieces allow free movement and let the body breathe whilst thicker straps contrast the delicate fabrics, providing strong support and a classic look.
Athletic Wonders brings back zig zag prints which were prominent in the early 2000’s. To revamp this classic design is the use of neoprene fabrics and fashion-forward zippers. Inspiration is drawn from street wear and women wanting a mixture of both support and comfort in the lingerie department. Intimate apparel is the first item of clothing that touches the skin, making it all the more important that it is made using breathable and comfortable materials. Cube patterns will create flattering angles and a sporty feel.
Girly Gal is exactly what is says on the tin. Pastel lace combined with rose coloured satin, it is femininity through and through. Inspiration comes from beautiful pink peonies and other delicate spring flowers. Fresh floral designs mixed with metallic lace creates simple yet elegant detail and a light and airy feel. Double-layered satin offers light coverage and smooth comfort and adjustable straps provide easy adjustability.
